John is a successful professional landscape painter whose work is widely exhibited in this country and abroad. Following an earlier career in the oil industry in East Africa and the U.K., he became a full-time artist 20 years ago, following a period of some seven years as a pupil to one of the country's foremost commercial artists. John specialises in watercolours, although he also enjoys working in oils. He prefers to work on the spot, out in the open air. He lives in a delightful Warwickshire village near Stratford-upon-Avon, and close to the Cotswolds - an area which offers him much inspiratio. His love of old buildings comes across in his work, and he is fully occupied fulfilling commissions, holding exhibitions and supplying galleries. He also has to satisfy a growing demand for his artist's impressions, particulary aerial perspective paintings, from the property development market.

I have been painting for most of my life and love the challenge of watercolour. Since moving from London to Shipston on Stour, I have exhibited at venues in Stratford-upon-Avon, Stow on the Wold and Sibford Gower, and some of my work has gone to Australia, America, Spain and various places in the UK. I concentrate mainly on the English landscape, enjoying the unique colouring of the Cotswold stone cottages in particular. I have also painted street scenes, flowers, and the occasional dog I run a small weekly art group in Shipston, and sometimes give advice and demonstrations.

 

My landscapes are usually done on the spot in Summer, or indoors in Winter from sketches and photographs, and can be viewed at my home by appointment.
